Historic House Addition, Concord, NH
This 1500 sf addition (including new connector, garage and porches) respects the scale of the original 1785 Daniel Abbot house. The addition was sited to form a protected and well defined, South facing garden space; the existing driveway was relocated to form an entrance on the North side of the house. The modern finishes of the standing seam metal roofing, the window configurations (to bring in more South light), and the 5kW solar system do not compromise the integrity of the original house; the historic windows were reglazed for further use. The architecture reflects its New England heritage in terms of scale and volume, yet is clearly the work of our own time, rather than being an imitation of the past.
