Revitalizing Artistic Retreats
The Mixter Studio at the MacDowell Colony is an exemplar of sustainable renovation, blending artistic heritage with modern environmental sensibilities. Originally intended as a daytime retreat, the studio has been transformed into a full live-in creative space. This renovation supports the colony’s mission by providing year-round, eco-friendly studios that foster creative endeavors in the New Hampshire backcountry.
Project Highlights:
- Enhanced Functionality: Additions include a kitchenette, full bathroom, and a screened porch, enhancing both the utility and comfort for artists.
- Sustainable Living: Upgraded insulation and mini-split heat pumps, coupled with a new solar array, significantly reduce the studio's energy requirements.
Awards:
- 2018 AIANH Excellence in Sustainability Award
