Enhanced Creative Sanctuaries

The Garland Studio at the MacDowell Colony has been thoughtfully renovated to support both the artistic process and environmental sustainability. This project involved transforming the studio into a live-in space, suitable for year-round use, while respecting its historical significance and woodland setting. This renovation not only preserves the artistic heritage of the Garland Studio but also aligns it with contemporary environmental goals, providing a cozy and inspiring retreat for artists throughout the seasons.

Project Highlights:

  • Adaptive Use: Introduction of modern amenities such as a kitchenette and full bathroom within the existing footprint.
  • Energy Efficiency: Implementation of mini-split heat pumps and a new solar array to minimize energy consumption and eliminate reliance on oil heating.

Awards:

  • 2018 AIANH Excellence in Sustainability Award
