Sustainable Artistic Retreats

The Eastman Studio at the MacDowell Colony has been meticulously renovated to provide year-round accommodation for artists, maintaining its original charm while upgrading to modern, eco-friendly standards. This project reflects the colony’s dedication to fostering creativity in an environmentally responsible setting.

Project Highlights:

  • Architectural Integrity: Carefully preserved exterior with significant interior enhancements for year-round comfort and functionality.
  • Modern Comforts in Historic Spaces: Each studio was expanded to include a kitchenette, full bathroom, and screened porch, respecting the historic aesthetic while enhancing functionality.
  • Energy Efficiency: Mini-split heat pumps and a new solar array significantly reduce energy usage, replacing old oil heating systems.
