A Contemporary and Classic Farmhouse
This family retreat on 350 acres of land with views to Mt Monadnock balances the communal nature of a large extended family with the individual needs of its members. Designed as a traditional New England farmhouse, it incorporates modern spaces and emphasizes the connection between the built environment and the natural landscape. The design and construction of this stately home emphasizes skill in blending traditional architecture with modern details while maintaining harmony with the natural landscape. A forestry management plan was developed to sustainably harvest wood used for flooring and other finishes.
Project Highlights:
- Outdoor-Indoor Connection: Stone walls and porches shape outdoor spaces, framing views of Mount Monadnock and the Green Mountains.
- Functional Design: The living, dining, kitchen, and screen areas blend seamlessly, creating informal spaces reminiscent of summer cottage living.
Privacy and Separation: Six bedrooms offer varying degrees of separation for privacy. - Garden and Courtyard: The garage connector defines the gardens and entrance courtyard, creating a welcoming space reminiscent of a New England farmyard.
